Study on the Loss Characteristics of Stator Core of High-Speed Permanent Magnet Motor with SMC

Against the background of the rapid development of new energy vehicle industry, high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (HSPMSM) has attracted much attention as a core component of the drive system. In motor design, material selection plays a key role in its performance. In this paper, for the 8-pole, 48-slot, 20,000 r/min HSPMSM, the performance of the motor with soft magnetic composite (SMC) and 0.5 mm conventional silicon steel material as the stator core is compared and investigated. The magnetic properties of the soft magnetic materials at different frequencies are measured by the ring sample method, and the performance is evaluated by combining finite element analysis and experimental verification. Studies have shown that SMC stator-core motors exhibit significant advantages at high operating speeds. The difference in maximum efficiency between the two is small compared to silicon steel motors, but the high efficiency range of SMC motors is significantly wider. Especially in high-frequency operation, the SMC material, with its unique three-dimensional insulation structure, suppresses eddy current losses significantly and can effectively reduce iron loss.
