Exploring the Relationship between Age Categories and Injury Distribution in Workplace Accidents

Occupational accidents can have a significant impact on both employees and work productivity and, in severe cases, can even lead to physical and mental issues or result in death. The worker's age is a crucial factor affecting the treatment and prevention of occupational accidents. Differentage groups face varying levels of job risks and weaknesses. As workers age, physical and cognitive changes may alter how they react to occupational hazards and their risk of injury. This research aims to enhance workplace safety and employee well-being by conducting a systematic thematic review to analyze the distribution of workplace accident injuries among different age cohorts. The thematic review comprehensively examined published studies, articles, and relevant sources to identify key themes, patterns, and findings related to workplace accident injuries among different age groups. The examination revealed several common themes and patterns linked to age-specific risks and factors contributing to workplace accident injuries. These included themes such as lack of experience, physical demands of the job, inadequate training, and potential complacency among younger workers due to perceived invincibility or overconfidence. The identified themes from the thematic review guided the analysis of injury data from the Saudi Open Data Portal dataset. Descriptive analysis, a one-way ANOVA test, examined the distribution of workplace accident injuries across different age categories. The analysis results indicated that the age groups most prone to injuries were those in the 20-29 and 30-34 years categories, aligning with the themes identified in the thematic review. These findings reinforce the importance of addressing age-specific risks and implementing targeted prevention techniques to minimize workplace accidents. The study integrates insights from a thematic review and injury data analysis to improve safety measures and employee well-being. The themes shed light on factors causing workplace accidents among different age groups, enabling tailored strategies to createsafer working environments. The research emphasizes theimportance of considering age as a critical factor in preventing and treating occupational accidents. Organizations can enhance workplace safety and promote employee well-being by addressing age-specific risks.
