Optimization Strategy for Power Control in C+L+S Band Transmission Using Particle Swarm Optimization

In the context of ultra-wideband wavelength-division multiplexing (UWB-WDM) technology expanding the optical spectrum to increase transmission capacity, inter-channel stimulated Raman scattering (ISRS) causes power transfer from high-frequency to low-frequency channels, degrading the overall performance. To address this issue, this paper introduces the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, which mimics the collective behavior of bird flocks or fish schools to optimize power allocation in the C, L, and S bands. This ensures that long-distance optical transmission systems meet the target channel capacity. The optimization considers dynamic Raman gain and channel-dependent parameters for accuracy and practicality. Additionally, this paper proposes a balanced capacity strategy to achieve large capacity for each channel with low performance fluctuation. The proposed strategy is also compared with other two strategies: equal-power-emission, and capacity maximization. The simulation results indicate these strategies exhibit diverse performance characteristics under different conditions, offering valuable references for strategy selection in practical applications.
