Enhancing Spatial Visualization for Interior Design Pedagogical Innovation Through Gamification

Spatial visualization skills are vital in engineering and design, traditionally developed through hands-on and 2D exercises. With digital technologies on the rise, this research explores the potential of immersive digital platforms, particularly video games, to enhance these skills. One method for incorporating ideas and components from games into non-gaming environments is gamification. The researcher addresses the gap in understanding specific features that aid spatial skill development by creating and evaluating “Cosmize!”, a semi-3D video game designed for students. The purpose of this study is to develop an interactive gamification as spatial visualization that helps integrate digital platforms into the classroom. The aim is to contribute to achieve SDG4: Quality Education and SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Using a quantitative approach, this study gathered user insights through a questionnaire and guided the game's development via the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) method. Preliminary findings indicate that customizable visual cues and interactive puzzles significantly enhance spatial skills. The results indicate that gamification techniques as a pedagogical innovation tool can improve students’ visualization and offer an immersive learning environment that goes beyond traditional educational methods.
