Photonic-Assisted Wideband Irregular Radar Compound Jamming Signal Generation

Interrupted sampling repeater jamming (ISRJ) inherently suffers from regular distribution in pulse compression (PC) results. A photonic-assisted wideband comb spectrum modulation jamming (CSMJ) and chopping & interleaving (C&I) radar compound jamming signal generator with irregularity is theoretical analyzed and experimentally demonstrated. In this scheme, CSMJ is achieved using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator, and C&I jamming is realized using an acousto-optic modulator and an optical fiber recirculating loop, respectively. The effectiveness of the jamming is evaluated through PC process, achieved by cross-correlating the radar jamming signal with the received radar signal. Based on the principle of coherent superposition, the PC results indicate that the CSMJ and C&I compound jamming can make the distribution of false targets irregular while also increase the number and distribution range of false targets, thereby enhancing the deception of the jamming signals.
