Motivations for Video Game Use and Skill Development in a Minecraft Camp

Nowadays, there is an increasing demand - not only from students - for education to be experiential, for knowledge to be transmitted and processed playfully, using the achievements of modern technology. The Minecraft video game offers creative opportunities for learning playfully. Since 2022, Óbuda University has organised summer camps for 10-16-year-olds, at which participants can learn about different technical fields through Minecraft. This paper presents the methodological experiences and research results of the last camp in 2024. It focuses on the motivation to play and the skill-building effects of video games. The research data and experience drawn from the camp have highlighted that Minecraft is excellently suited to not only engage and motivate students but also to transfer knowledge effectively.
