Robust Control of Axial Piston Pumps Using Particle Swarm Optimization

An innovative algorithmic framework for robust control of hydraulic systems, focusing on controlling the pressure of a variable displacement hydraulic axial piston pump, is presented. The methodology addresses two key robust control objectives: (i) achieving closed-loop system Hurwitz invariability and (ii) ensuring robust asymptotic pressure tracking of desired reference signals. The proposed design framework is analyzed in two phases. The first involves deriving solvability conditions for Hurwitz invariability and systematically identifying stability regions for Proportional plus integral (PI) controller parameters. In the second phase, an advanced optimization algorithm, using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), is employed to compute near-optimal controller parameters within these regions. The proposed framework is designed to demonstrate robustness and precision in addressing physical uncertainties inherent in hydraulic systems. Its application to variable displacement hydraulic pumps highlights its potential to significantly enhance system performance and reliability in more complex industrial engineering applications.
