A New Bidirectional Single-Inductor Multiple-Output (SIMO) DC–AC Converter for Low-Power Applications

In this article, a new bidirectional single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) dc–ac converter is proposed for high-efficiency bidirectional power conversion between one dc port and multiple ac ports. Compared to the existing dc–ac inverters, this bidirectional SIMO achieves the following: 1) higher transfer efficiency in low-power conditions; 2) bidirectional buck/boost power conversion; 3) pseudocontinuous conduction mode (PCCM) operation without additional power switches; 4) scalability; and 5) compactness. Both directions of power conversion can operate in either discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) or PCCM. The feasibility of a bidirectional single-inductor three-output (SITO) converter system is experimentally verified. The maximum efficiencies for the dc–ac and ac–dc conversions are measured to be 88.09% and 87.47%, respectively.
