U-Slotted vs U-Shaped: A deep dive in to 28 GHz antennas for the Next Generation

The increasing demand for low latency and high data rate in the field of 5G Wireless communication systems has necessitated the development of advanced antenna technologies which will be operating at millimeter-wave frequencies. The design of a U-Slotted antenna (a patch antenna with a slot in the shape of english alphabet U) operating at 28 GHz is presented in this paper. The U-shaped slot boosts bandwidth and also supports high data rates where the multiple resonant modes enhances frequency agility and coverage.The use of 28 GHz band is an optimal choice due to its wide bandwidth enabling ultra fast data rates, A comparison study is also made between a U-shaped antenna where the patch is in the shape of english alphabet U with the U-Slotted antenna on the basis of return loss, gain, directivity and thereby efficiency.
