Improving Industrial IoT Systems with AI to Support Smart Factory Operations, Predictive Maintenance, and Real-Time Monitoring

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will change the face of Manufacturing and Industrial IIoT systems. This study investigates the capabilities of AI-based solutions in improving IIoT systems' functionality and performance, specifically in smart factory operations, predictive maintenance, and real-time monitoring. In smart factories, this collected data from interconnected devices is utilized and AI is used to manage production processes and automate decision-making and resource use. They can be used to drive more efficient industrial operations through various machine learning algorithms and AI models by streamlining overall processes that can improve productivity, minimize downtime, and ultimately free up more time and resources. AI and IIoT technologies have enabled predictive maintenance by facilitating the real-time monitoring of equipment and machinery health to anticipate possible failures before they take place. This preventive maintenance approach minimizes unscheduled downtime, reduces maintenance expenses, and increases the lifespan of vital equipment. Deep learning energy machine learning models, specifically, are used for sensor data analysis to identify signatures for future failures. In addition, AI-based real-time monitoring systems improve operational transparency which offers actionable information on factory performance, supply chain logistics, and energy usage. Such systems harness the power of artificial intelligence to assist managers in making circumstances-aware decisions while enabling industrial processes to run seamlessly and providing an excellent basis for data-driven improvement strategies. Moreover, this study addresses the potential limitations and obstacles associated with incorporating AI into IIoT frameworks, such as issues related to data privacy, system compatibility, and the demand for scalable architectures capable of processing the increasing amount of industrial data. The potential advantages of using AI to create and improve IIoT applications in manufacturing industries are showcased with case studies and experiments, illustrating that AI and IIoT can provide smarter, increasingly resilient, and cost-effective industrial operations. The results show that AI and IIoT are a perfect match for each other, and this conducive combination will be a prominent feature of the jobs of the future, serving as an enabler of Industry 4.0 goals.
