Hot Redundent FPGA Based Controller for Fixed Switching String Sequential Shunt Regulator for Satellite Power Bus

This paper presents the implementation of a Solar Array Regulator (SAR) utilizing a Fixed Switching String Sequential Switching Shunt Regulator (FS³ R) architecture [1], integrated with a FPGA-based shunt regulator referred to as the Hybrid Fixed Switching String Shunt Regulator (HFS3R). The proposed system enhances power regulation efficiency and reliability in space-based solar power systems. To address the risk of single-point failure, a hot-redundant digital controller approach is employed, ensuring continuous operation and improved fault tolerance. The combination of conventional FS3R and FPGAcontrolled HFS3R offers a robust and flexible power regulation solution suitable for critical high power space applications.
