Axial Flux Permanent magnet motor for Drone Application

Axial flux motors offer higher torque and power density compared to radial flux motors. Thus, they are being extensively worked on for applications like Electric vehicles. Similarly, high torque and power density motors can greatly benefit drone applications, resulting in lighter drones and increased flight time. This paper compares the Axial Flux versus the Radial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) for Drone applications. Performnace of motors, obtained from Finite Element Analysis (FEA) under geometrical constraints of outer diameter is compared. An analytical approach for the design of an Axial flux motor for optimal performance is also presented.
