A Low-Cost IoT Solution for Real-Time Driver Drowsiness Detection using Eye-Blink sensor

Drowsy driving is a major cause of road accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities. This paper presents an IoT-based driver drowsiness detection system that monitors eye blink patterns using an eye blink sensor. If the driver's eyes remain closed for 10 seconds, the system triggers a response: the vehicle slows down via a gear motor, and a piezo buzzer alerts the driver. Powered by an Arduino Nano and a 9V battery, the system operates in real time without interference. By using low-cost components and smart detection, it contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by enhancing road safety and reducing accidents caused by drowsiness.
