Adaptive Fractional-Order Model Predictive Control for Power Converters Using Fuzzy Logic

This paper introduces an advanced control technique for power converters by integrating Fractional Order Model Predictive Control (FOMPC) with a fuzzy logic-based adaptive tuning system. The fractional-order approach improves control accuracy by capturing the memory and dynamic characteristics often present in power electronic systems. To overcome the limitations of fixed or optimization-based parameter tuning methods, a fuzzy logic controller is used to continuously adjust control parameters in real time. This enables the system to respond effectively to varying operating conditions without relying on an exact mathematical model. A single-phase boost Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter serves as a test platform to validate the proposed method. Simulation results show significant improvements in dynamic response and a notable reduction in Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), all achieved without increasing the converter’s switching frequency. These outcomes highlight the method’s potential for use in efficient and robust power conversion applications.
