Implementation of Smart Traffic Light Control System with Emergency Vehicle Prioritization

Time plays an important role in traffic management. Traffic conditions will get worse every day, especially in emergency situations. During periods of heavy traffic, many intersections occur, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to cross the road. When a patient or someone involved in an accident needs to be transported to the hospital quickly, it is the responsibility of emergency vehicles such as ambulances to get there. Traffic congestion can cause delays in rescue operations. Emergency vehicle management is designed and developed to control emergency vehicles, how to operate traffic lights, and how to donate to emergency vehicles. Emergency vehicles are ambulances, and more. The system uses radio frequency identification (RFID) as the main tool to implement the control system. RFID tags help verify the passage of emergency vehicles according to traffic signs. The movement of emergency vehicles around the signal indicates that the signal has changed, which helps emergency vehicles pass through each intersection without wasting time on the signal. This continued until the emergency vehicles arrived at their location. All these processes occur without human intervention. The system will provide multiple outputs showing the following parameters, such as continuous readings from four ultrasonic sensors, a timer, and an emergency lane. As they are read, the system will change the signal accordingly. The timer reading is displayed in milliseconds and the ultrasonic sensor reading (i.e. distance) is displayed in centimeters.
