A High-Gain Bidirectional DC-DC Converter with Dual PWM Control Strategy

Modern power systems require bidirectional DC-DC converters because of their capacity to provide two-way energy transfer. This paper explores the design and performance of a high-gain bidirectional DC-DC converter that uses dual PWM control for efficient power management. Higher voltage gain, less ripple, and increased efficiency in both buck and boost modes are the results of the suggested control system, which mixes high and low-frequency PWM signals. One notable advantage of the control strategy is that when the duty cycles of both the high-frequency and low-frequency PWM signals are set to the same value, the voltage gain can be derived as a quadratic function of the duty cycle using the volt-second balance principle.The converter demonstrates stable operation with a minimal component count, highlighting its design efficiency. Significant performance gains, such as less ripple, improved transient response, and increased overall efficiency, are shown by simulation results and hardware validations, which qualify it for use in electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.
