Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing of Battery Management System Using a High-Fidelity Digital Twin

Battery Management System (BMS) are essential for guaranteeing the safety, performance, and longevity of battery packs. To ensure the reliability of BMS algorithms and optimize battery pack performance across diverse operating conditions, rigorous testing is crucial, especially within the automotive sector. This research presents an automated Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing methodology that incorporates a cost-effective Cell Voltage Emulator (CVE) and a customizable digital twin of a battery pack for validating BMS under different conditions. The results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in validating BMS performance by identifying potential issues, reducing execution time and increasing the requirement coverage for automotive Electric Vehicles.
