Enhance Student Understanding through Visual Programming: Explore the Learning Effects of Arrays, Structures and Linked List

This study explores the application of the Visual Coding System in programming education, specifically in designing programming and monitoring functions for data types such as arrays, structs, and linked-lists. This system not only allows users to write programs in a visual way but also forces the written programs to be re-simulated in the form of animation to help users understand the program's operation process. Research results show that the Visual Coding System is effective in helping students understand basic and advanced concepts of programming, but its practicality in programming is relatively limited. To further verify the system's effectiveness, a questionnaire was designed to survey usage and feedback from first-year students in the Department of Information Engineering. The results show that most students believe the system helps them understand the operating process of the program and deepen their understanding of the concepts taught in class. However, some students still prefer traditional text coding. Future experiments will be further refined and made more objective. The effectiveness of the Visual Coding System in improving students' programming abilities will be verified through comparisons between the experimental group and the control group.
