IoT-based Smart Helmet and Jacket for Real-Time Safety Monitoring in Construction Site

The construction sector is one of the most dangerous working environments, with risks of falls, structural collapse, and toxic gas exposure. Conventional safety gear provides passive protection but cannot monitor in real-time. This project introduces a Smart Helmet and Jacket system using ESP32-based IoT technology to improve employee protection through real-time monitoring of health and environment and tracking of workers. The smart helmet includes an IR sensor to monitor helmet usage and MQ gas sensors to measure dangerous gases. The jacket includes an analog pulse sensor for heart rate monitoring, a DHT11 sensor for temperature and humidity monitoring, a vibration sensor to monitor structural instability, and an MPU6050 sensor to track movement and falls. All the readings are streamed to the ThingSpeak server for real-time monitoring. Alarms are raised for anomalous readings, and supervisors can react instantaneously. By providing real-time health monitoring, environmental hazard monitoring, and tracking of worker movement, the system enhances overall workplace safety and facilitates quicker response to emergencies.
