Impact of High Renewable Energy Integration on Power Quality: Voltage and Current Distortion in Electrical Systems

The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into power grids is increasingly important to monitor their impact on grid stability, voltage control, and harmonic distortion. This research examines the impact of increased renewable energy penetration on power quality, specifically focusing on voltage stability and harmonics generated from solar and wind sources. Sophisticated control tactics, inverter advancements, and energy storage choices are essential for tackling these challenges. The case study examines real-life challenges and the efficacy of measures to reduce them. The results show that, although renewable integration contributes to decarbonisation (SDG 7), it also leads to power quality issues. Optimal inverters and harmonic management are necessary for grid stabilization (SDGs 9 and 13).
