IoT-based Sweat Analyzer to Determine Health Condition

This research work proposes an IoT-based sweat analyzer prototype designed to detect elevated chloride levels in human sweat, a key biomarker for Cystic Fibrosis (CF)—a genetic disorder associated with abnormal chloride transport in the body. The device utilizes a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) sensor to estimate chloride concentration in millimoles per liter (mmol/L) from sweat samples. Upon collection, the sweat sample is analyzed by immersing the TDS sensor pin, and the measured chloride value is processed using an Arduino microcontroller and displayed on an LCD. The system was first simulated using Proteus and Arduino software, followed by the development and testing of a functional prototype in a controlled laboratory environment. Results indicate the analyzer's potential as a preliminary, non-invasive screening tool for CF, leveraging the rapid growth and accessibility of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the healthcare monitoring domain.
