IoT-based Sewage Atmosphere and Health Monitoring for Sanitation Workers with Alerting System

As the population in smart cities grows faster, various challenges arise, one of which is sewage treatment tank accidents that cost the lives of sewage workers. Frequently, numerous sewage-based accidents may occur in India, and several workers died as a result of being exposed to harmful gases while engaged in a sewage system. These accidents were happened due to a deficiency in equipment availability, a lack of training, poor safety regulations, deficiency of safety measures, and negligence. The primary objective of this project is to offer a solution for monitoring the water flow of the sewage system, toxic gas concentrations, and heart rates of sewage workers. It monitors the gas and water flow in the sewage system; if either crosses a predefined threshold, an alert is sent to workers in remote locations. Additionally, the system detects the heart rate of the sewage workers to detect any abnormalities and immediately alerts them in case of health risks. In the proposed system, sensors transmit the data to the NodeMCU which analyzes the information. If recorded data exceeds particular threshold level, then the system activates the buzzer to alert the sanitary workers. A Wi-Fi module is integrated to send the alert message to the mobile phone, ensuring the workers receive early warnings to prevent sewage treatment tank accidents.
