Real-Time Monitoring of Transformer Parameters Using IoT

A Transformer is an important part of electrical power systems. Its reliable operation maintains continuity in the electricity delivery to customers. The real-time health monitoring system of the transformer prevents faults and enhances its life. This paper presents real-time monitoring of temperature, load voltage, current, and oil level by using IoT technology with sensors. The collected data were processed using Arduino UNO. The data is transmitted for analysis to the thingSpeak platform. Once the sensed data exceeds the reference limit, the GSM module sends a message to an authorized person and intimates through a buzzer. The performance of the system has been validated through the prototype model. The proposed system gives an early intimation of the unexpected behavior of the transformer. This can help to schedule preventive maintenance and reduce unplanned outages.
