Bridging MATLAB and PYNQ-Z2 Board for Edge Detection Applications

This study examines how hardware and software may work together to build image processing algorithms, with a particular emphasis on the Sobel and Canny edge detection filters. For software-based image processing, the study emphasizes the benefits of high-level programming through the use of MATLAB for algorithm creation and simulation. The PYNQ-Z2 platform, which uses FPGA technology for real-time computation, is used for the hardware implementation. The study addresses speed, power economy, and accuracy trade-offs while highlighting the relative performance of hardware and software solutions. This work bridges the gap between the ease of software creation and the performance advantages of hardware acceleration by demonstrating a framework for deploying computationally demanding image processing workloads on hybrid systems.
