2D Model of the Spatial Position of Litz Wire Strands Based on the Variable Neighborhood Search

At high frequencies, the eddy current effect in litz wires is reduced, decreasing their AC resistance. Therefore, litz wires can be applied in high-frequency transformers to achieve efficient energy conversion with high power density. To perform electromagnetic modeling of litz wires, it is essential to establish an accurate two-dimensional model. However, existing literature rarely reports on the two-dimensional modeling of litz wires. By employing the variable neighborhood search algorithm (VNS), we characterize the random and tight contact characteristics of litz wire strands at a specific fill factor, thereby providing a precise two-dimensional model for the electromagnetic analysis of litz wires. Using Micro-CT, we got two-dimensional model images of four litz wire samples, and the experimental results were consistent with the model predictions.
