Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite Guided Wave Propagation Modal Analysis

Carbon fiber composite materials are pivotal in aerospace applications due to their high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance. Their utilization extends to high-pressure gas storage containers, enhancing safety and reliability in fields like transportation and energy storage. However, safety concerns arise due to potential internal defects, necessitating structural health monitoring systems. Modal acoustic emission, despite challenges in predicting acoustic wave propagation within carbon fiber, offers promising potential. This study employs the stiffness matrix method (SMM) to analyze multi-layered carbon fiber structures. The paper derives guided wave dispersion equations, proposes defect localization methods, and conducts experimental analyses on carbon fiber plates. Results underscore the theoretical significance of SMM in guided wave dispersion curve reconstruction, highlighting its potential in pressure vessel monitoring applications.
