Aging and Air Infusion Effects on the Performance and Longevity of Polyol Ester-Based Immersion Cooling Fluids for Data Centers

In recent years, immersion cooling has emerged as a transformative technology for the thermal management of data centers, driven by the need for more efficient and sustainable cooling solutions. As this technology evolves, it is critical to develop innovative, environmentally sustainable fluids that meet performance demands. Polyol esters (POEs) have become a promising option due to their excellent thermal stability, dielectric properties, and biodegradability. This study examines the aging behavior of POE-based immersion cooling fluids, focusing on the effects of increased acid number and water content on fluid performance. Despite changes associated with aging, our findings show that the POE fluid retains strong dielectric properties. Additionally, we explore air infusion as an effective method to reduce acid number and water content, thereby preserving dielectric strength and extending the fluid's operational lifespan. These insights support the potential of POE fluids as a sustainable choice for enhancing the resilience and longevity of immersion cooling systems in data centers.
