ProVANT-Emergentia: Embedded System Design for a Tiltrotor UAV

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are notorious for their versatility in a wide range of applications. Hybrid UAVs combine both fixed and rotary wings to enhance capabilities, enabling vertical take-off and landing while extending flight ranges through aerodynamic lift. This work details the design and implementation of the embedded electronics system for a tilt-rotor hybrid UAV developed within the ProVANT-Emergentia project, addressing the challenges associated with this kind of vehicle from both an electronics and software perspective. Initially, system requirements are defined to ensure the vehicle’s suitability for search and rescue missions. This is followed by the description of the hardware and software architectures, establishing a comprehensive framework for developing electronic systems tailored to this class of aircraft. Finally, implementation details are provided, highlighting the solutions employed for the ProVANT-Emergentia UAV, along with a discussion of the project’s current status and future developments.
