The Design and Implementation of a Firefighting Helmet Based on Internet of Things (IoT) Technology

Industries of all kinds are developing rapidly in today’s society. However, due to the lack of sufficient safety awareness among many people, fires occur frequently. How to ensure the life safety of rescuers in the harsh fire environment is obviously a topic worth discussing. Although firefighters themselves have extraordinary physical fitness, the fire environment is unpredictable. Wearing heavy protective clothing can affect their accurate perception of the external environment. At the same time, working for long periods with high-intensity concentration often makes them neglect their own conditions. Working at the limit in the fire environment is fatal to the human body. Therefore, a device that can replace firefighters in perceiving the external environment and monitoring their own conditions is needed. Based on information technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud platforms, an intelligent firefighting helmet system has been designed to protect firefighters in harsh environments. The management personnel can view the helmet’s battery level and the firefighters’ physical conditions in real time through the user terminal. When firefighters experience abnormal body temperature or heart rate, they can promptly notify their teammates or other rescuers to take emergency measures quickly.
