Real-Time Effective Reserve Capacity of Transmission Grid Evaluation Method Considering Uncertainty of Load and Renewable Energy

This paper proposes a method for effective reserve capacity evaluation of transmission grids considering the uncertainty of load/renewable energy. The concept of critical equilibrium state (CES) is introduced, and the effective/ineffective reserve capacity and the critical lines are defined afterward. The effective reserve capacity evaluation problem is modeled as a linear program with the objective of maximizing nodal power stretching and constraints of power balance, unit operational limits, and transmission limits, which can be solved efficiently by a linear programming solver. Numerical tests on a real-world provincial grid show the effectiveness of the proposed model.
