Modeling of Power System Control Center in Dispatcher Training Simulator

A dispatcher training simulator (DTS) is a realtime man-machine interference used to impart training in power system operation and can establish system restoration procedures. The functionality, model, and hardware/software system of the control centers in a DTS are reviewed. Various dispatch paradigms are examined, and intelligent technologies are incorporated to enable the secure operation of power systems and enhance the capability of system operators in decision-making to attain power system operation goals. Simulator training in power systems provides an efficient method of exposing dispatchers to various emergency conditions. However, developing economical computational hardware is a prerequisite for dispatcher training simulations. Furthermore, models and algorithms to simulate large power systems in real time require innovation. The algorithms designed to meet the processing time desirable for real-time simulation are examined. Moreover, artificial intelligence techniques used in the autonomous intelligent control system of the simulator are also narrated. The concept of a Digital twin for a dispatcher training simulator to duplicate real-world operations in a virtual environment is briefly discussed.
