Optimization and Performance Analysis of Pass Transistor Based Decoder Design Using 18nm FinFET and 45nm MOSFET Technologies

As digital circuits evolve, the demand for higher speed and lower power consumption continues to increase. FinFET technology is a promising alternative to traditional CMOS technology. A 3:8 decoder designed with Pass Transistor Logic (PTL) using 18 nm FinFET technology demonstrated a 99.7% reduction in power consumption and a 45% increase in speed compared to its 45 nm MOSFET counterpart. Unlike MOSFET, which cease to function below 0.8V, FinFETs operate efficiently at 0.6V, making them ideal for low-power applications. These advantages position FinFETs as a key technology for modern electronics, particularly in the IoT and embedded systems.
