Design of High-Efficiency and Broadband Power Amplifier Based on Extended Resistive-Reactive Series of Continuous Modes

This letter proposes an extended resistive-reactive continuous mode theory based on dual magnitude factor regulation. To address voltage swing compression in conventional methodologies, two independent magnitude regulation factors $\lambda $ and $\mu $ are introduced into the drain voltage waveform. This method establishes a dynamic compensation mechanism, achieving compensation of output power and drain efficiency (DE), while expanding the impedance design space (IDS) to enhance circuit design flexibility. To verify the proposed theory, a multioctave power amplifier (PA) is fabricated and measured. The measurement results show that a DE of 60.1%–75.9%, an output power of 39.9–42.3 dBm, and a gain of 9.4–11.5 dB are achieved within 0.8–3.8 GHz.
