Wireless Power Transfer using an Elliptical Cavity for Automotive Applications

The growing shift towards electrification and sustainable technologies has led to an increased demand for battery-free power solutions for automotive systems. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a promising solution allowing efficient power transfer to an electronic system such as a microprocessor or sensors placed on rotating shafts. This paper proposes an elliptical cavity design for WPT in automotive applications. Elliptical cavities have been used in systems like satellite communication, radars, microwave heating etc. They have their own distinct advantages over conventional microwave cavity designs, enabling reliable power transfer to rotating shafts with a wireless sensing system. Our design demonstrates efficient power coupling at a resonant frequency of 2.4 GHz providing a sustainable and cost-effective solution for automotives.
