Comparative Performance for Multi-Motor PMSM Control Structure Based on PI-Retarded and Predictive-PI Controllers

Starting from the need to obtain superior performance in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) control, but using low/medium hardware resources, this paper proposes a study of the performance of multi-motor control structures with equal or different speed reference, under the presents of delays in the control loops. The speed controllers used in PMSM Field Oriented Control (FOC) control strategies are PI, PI-Retarded (PIR), and Predictive PI (PPI). The performance indicators used to compare the presented multi-motor control structures consisting of PMSM-Master (PMSM-M) and PMSMSlave (PMSM-S) are the follows: overshoot, steady-state error, and master/slave tracking signal ripple along with the PMSM response time. The comparative performance presentation is based on numerical simulations performed in Matlab/Simulink.
