Analysis of cycling aging mechanism of lithium-ion batteries at different discharge cut-off voltages under high temperature with vibration

Lithium-ion batteries often operate in an environment suitable for battery operation recommended by battery manufacturers, which will lead to environmental adaptability problems of lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, it is necessary to study the charge and discharge behavior of battery under complex operating environments. This paper studies the different discharge cut-off voltages behavior of lithium-ion batteries operating under high temperature and vibration environment. Firstly, an experimental platform for lithium-ion batteries under high temperature and vibration was built to obtain battery charge and discharge data. Secondly, the degradation mechanism of lithium-ion batteries was qualitatively characterized based on incremental capacity. Finally, the aging mode of lithium-ion batteries was quantitatively studied based on the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data. The results show that when lithium-ion batteries operate under high temperature and vibration environment, a discharge cut-off voltage appropriately lower than that recommended by the manufacturer is beneficial to the operation of the battery and provides more power. Meanwhile, the characterization analysis results based on incremental capacity and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy show that loss of lithium inventory is the main aging mode of lithium-ion batteries under high temperature and vibration environment.
