Design, Control and Real-Time Testing of Off-Grid Solar System Based on High Gain QZSBC with Storage System and Single-phase Inverter

In this paper, the control and design of an enhanced quasi-z-source DC-DC boost converter (QZSBC) for the off-grid solar system are presented. For more operational flexibility of the off-grid configuration and to compensate for the intermittency in solar energy and to ensure an uninterruptible power supply to connect isolated loads, the QZSBC is reinforced by a storage battery. To achieve high performance from solar panels and supply the connected load with constant voltage and frequency, advanced control strategies based on mathematical models of the QZSBC and the single-phase full-bridge converter are developed and implemented. The effectiveness of the proposed off-grid configuration based on QZSBC, their element design, and control strategies are evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink and tested through a laboratory prototype.
