Evaluation of GPT 4o for Mobile Applications Code Conversion

One of the key challenges in code translation is converting code from one language to another while maintaining functionality, design accuracy, and performance. Converting mobile applications from Swift (iOS) to Java (Android) is difficult due to differences in language structure, user interface elements, and platform-specific features. Additionally, cross-platform apps often face performance limitations compared to native Android and iOS versions, adding another layer of complexity. To address these issues, this paper explores the potential of GPT 40, an AI large language model, to automate the code conversion process. By converting six iOS applications to Android, qualitative and quantitative assessments were conducted to evaluate GPT 4o’s effectiveness. While the AI successfully translated logical structures, significant challenges remained in accurately replicating user interfaces and functionalities. Our findings underscore the need for further refinement in AI-driven code conversion, particularly in UI translation, functional accuracy, and performance optimization.
