Improvement of the Go-Back Force Based on Excitation Position in a Permanent Magnet - HTS Hybrid Maglev Transportation System

The magnetic levitation (maglev) transportation system which is a contactless system has garnered attention. It can reduce friction and wear, which are issues in conventional transportation systems. This study focuses on a hybrid magnetic levitation transportation system that combines the repulsive levitation method using permanent magnets with the pinning levitation method using high-temperature superconductors. The repulsive levitation method provides a stable and strong force in the levitation direction. The pinning levitation method using high-temperature superconductors (HTS) involves cooling a high-temperature superconductor in a magnetic field. This allows for passive, stable levitation in the guidance direction. In this system, excitation coils are installed on a magnetic rail made of permanent magnets. Previous studies have examined methods of controlling objects using one or two excited coils. In this paper, two and three coils are excited to compare the go-back force. In the method using three excited coils, approaches exciting the front, rear, and both ends of the carrier were investigated. As a result, the large go-back force is obtained when the position of the high-temperature superconductor coincides with the position of the excited coil. Also, the go-back force is generally proportional to the current used to excite the coils.
