An Improved Model Predictive Pulse Pattern Control for Motor Drive at Low Carrier Ratios

To simultaneously achieve low steady-state harmonics and high dynamic response for high-power motors at low carrier ratios, this paper presents a model predictive pulse pattern control (MP3C) technique. Initially, based on the discrete mathematical model of the induction motor, a finite set multi-step current prediction control method is presented. Subsequently, by integrating the optimal pulse pattern (OPP) modulation strategy with the current prediction algorithm, the approach effectively achieves low harmonic distortion and high dynamic performance at low carrier ratios. Finally, the presented method is validated through a 2 MW squirrel-cage induction motor model implemented on PLECS RT-Box.
