Research on Ignition Mechanism of Plasma Brush Applied to Series Linear Helical Launcher

The series linear helical electromagnetic launcher (SLHEML) with saddle-shaped secondary have the advantages of high thrust, long-distance acceleration, high efficiency, and wide adaptability to power sources. However, the use of brushes causes contact friction and arc generation between the primary and secondary, resulting in additional energy loss and thrust fluctuations. Replacing traditional solid alloy brushes with plasma brushes can effectively eliminate these disadvantages while retaining the advantages mentioned above of SLEMHL. This paper discusses the ignition mechanisms of plasma brushes and conducts corresponding experimental research. The results show that plasma brushes have sufficient current-carrying capacity and sustainability.
