Design and Optimization of the Cutting Blade for Straw Shredders

The equal sliding-cutting angle blade of the straw shredder is designed and optimized to solve the great change of the sliding-cutting angle, uneven stress, high energy consumption, and other problems of the traditional cutting blade. This work employs the logarithmic spiral equation to design the cutting blade's equal sliding-cutting angle cutting edge curve. The cutting process of corn straws is studied, the kinematics analysis of corn straws mass particles is carried out, and the power consumption model of corn straws is established to obtain low-energy consumption blades. Then, the optimum sliding-cutting angle is obtained based on the theoretical model. The comparative cutting experiments of blades are carried out to verify the practical effect of the optimized blade. The results show that the optimized equal sliding-cutting angle of the 50° blade has good adaptability to different moisture-content corn straws with the best cutting performance is the best. In this work, an optimization method of equal sliding-cutting angle blades based on the power consumption model is proposed. The proposed method reduces power consumption, improves cutting efficiency, and significantly improves the working performance of straw shredders.
