Augmented Reality based Piano Application

This paper explores the development and potential of an Augmented Reality (AR) piano application, which has been built using the Unity game engine and Vuforia SDK. As technology perpetually reshapes educational methodologies, there emerges a compelling need for providing learners with intuitive and immersive experiences. The limitations of existing AR musical tools, such as inaccurate key recognition, latency issues, and a lack of real-world interaction, are addressed. A specialized image recognition process, which involves scanning and identifying pre-trained images of piano keys using advanced algorithms, has been employed. This allows users to interact with printed keys in the physical environment, and upon such interaction, corresponding sounds are produced by the system, fostering a seamless AR musical experience. The application is anticipated not only to increase user engagement but also to offer benefits such as an enhanced learning curve for aspiring pianists, improved muscle memory due to the physical interaction with keys, and the potential to make music education more accessible through its user-friendly interface.
