On the Mixed-Potential Integral Equation (MPIE) for Arbitrarily Shaped PEC Objects Embedded in Plane-Stratified Media

There exist two forms of the Formulation C MPIE in plane-stratified media, viz., the standard one, and one in which the so-called correction term, associated with the vertical current component, appears explicitly. This correction term is implicit in the standard formulation, being absorbed into the dyadic vector potential kernel. Although the two MPIE variants are theoretically equivalent, there are some significant differences in the solution procedures when the method of moments with RWG basis functions is employed. The purpose of this paper is to compare the computer implementations of the two MPIE variants when applied to a 3D PEC surface penetrating an interface of a layered medium.
