IoT-Based Mine Environmental Monitoring System Using LoRaWAN and Cloud Integration

Mining environments are dangerous; they pose health risks due to the high exposure to harmful gases, extreme temperatures, and physical strain. Lack of real-time monitoring in many conventional safety measures means that many hazards may go unnoticed while operating. This paper proposes an IoT- based system that aims to improve mining safety by continuously monitoring miners' health parameters, including heart rate and SpO₂ levels and environmental conditions such as air quality. Data processing and predictive analytics will be executed using cloud computing, while underground communication is carried out using LoRaWAN. Preliminary results show the system's effectiveness in detecting hazardous conditions and providing real-time alerts, hence improving worker safety and reducing health risks.
