Development and Evaluation of an Advanced 5G-TSN Integration Test-bed

The deep integration of 5G and TSN (Time Sensitive Network) is pivotal. Together, they are committed to improving the network's real-time responsiveness and reliability, promoting digital transformation and intelligent development. In the process of 3GPP standardisation, a set of technical standard frameworks for integrating 5G and TSN have been formed. This provides a solid foundation and guidance for the seamless integration of the two technologies, thus effectively promoting the integration technology's rapid development and broad application. Although the convergence of 5G and TSN has many advantages, the integrated network's performance evaluation tools and methods are still in development. Therefore, this paper presents an advanced test-bed scheme for 5G and TSN network capability testing. The solution combines FPGA technology with its programmable features to customise the development of low-latency hardware modules. It focuses on sub-nanosecond precise time-stamp injection of data packets, low-latency packet replication, and mirroring functions. In addition, combined with the intelligent software system, the test bed can not only automatically generate and receive test packets but also profoundly analyse the time-stamp information of these packets to quantify the delay and jitter characteristics of the network accurately. Through the construction of 5G- TSN integration test scenarios, we strive to achieve a full-dimensional and refined evaluation of network performance, providing a solid data support and technical verification platform for optimising the performance of 5G and TSN integrated networks, promoting the expansion of technical boundaries and deepening application practice.
