Enhanced Path Planning for Smart Shopping Carts

This paper presents the design and development of a smart shopping cart with an enhanced path planning system aimed at improving the retail shopping experience in supermarkets. The proposed solution addresses existing inefficiencies by incorporating speech recognition, real-time path optimization, and autonomous navigation. The prototype processes user-inputted shopping items through speech recognition, categorizes them into predefined sections using a digital map of the supermarket, and navigates efficiently through the different aisles, enhancing user convenience and reducing shopping time. For path optimization, we used the A* algorithm that showed very good results in generating the most optimal path for the cart to autonomously follow.
