Transient Analysis of Bianisotropic Metamaterials With the DGTD Method

The 3-D discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method is extended to incorporate the bianisotropic constitutive relationship, which can be employed to simulate the interactions between the dispersive bianisotropic metamaterials (MMs) and electromagnetic waves. The wideband response of a representative type of bianisotropic media, the Omega MMs, has been investigated successfully by the proposed method for both the uniaxial and biaxial scenarios. An actual 3-D bianisotropic edge-coupled split-ring resonator (SRR) cell and a $4 \times 4$ MM array composed of four types of SRR cells for modeling digital-coding metasurface array are homogenized and also simulated. The simulation results and computational costs are compared with those from the actual structure, showing accuracy and much higher efficiency of the proposed method combined with material homogenization.
