An FPGA-Driven Compact Battery Management System for Real-Time Monitoring in Logistics Applications

The increasing adoption of IoT and other advanced digital technologies in logistics demands efficient energy management for battery-powered devices. This paper presents a compact, FPGA-driven battery management system designed for real-time monitoring and control in logistics applications. The system utilizes a sbRIO-9636 embedded controller with a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA for high-speed data acquisition and processing. Key functions include SOC estimation, voltage protection, and cell balancing. The prototype was developed and tested, demonstrating accurate voltage measurement and SOC tracking. The FPGA-based approach ensures reliability, scalability, and adaptability to harsh logistics environments. Potential applications include shipping container tracking, warehouse inventory management, and cold chain logistics. By enhancing battery reliability and operational efficiency, the proposed BMS contributes to sustainable and resilient digital logistics systems.
