Deadbeat Predictive Active and Reactive Power Control of Electric Spring

With the growing proportion of renewable energy in power systems, dedicated energy consumption technologies are required for grid stability. Electric Spring (ES) is a novel power electronic equipment for solving the power fluctuation issues by categorizing consumer loads into critical loads (CL) and adjustable non-critical loads (NCL), and transfer the power fluctuation of CL to NCL. The typical ES topology with voltage source is studied in this paper, and a deadbeat predictive power control strategy of ES system is proposed, in which the system’s active power and reactive power are controlled respectively by applying the calculated ES reference voltage to the inverter, with good dynamic performance, no steady-state error, no need for parameter tuning and no phase-locked loop (PLL). To address parameter sensitivity issues inherent in model-based control, an integrated online parameter identification method based on recursive least squares (RLS) is implemented. Finally, the proposed control strategy is validated by both simulation and experimental results.
